January 8 Genoa, Italy - concert at the Teatro Carlo Felice with pianist Lorenzo Bavaj, flautist Andrea Griminelli and soprano Michela Sburlati. The concert, which inaugurated Genoa's year as The European City of Culture, was in aid of the children's health charity, Fondazione Gaslini.

January 9 Barcelona, Spain - attends press conference for the premiere of the British film Calendar Girls. The film is based on the true story of a group of middle-aged women in a small English town who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for leukemia patients.  For the Spanish premiere, the producers of the film donated 18.000 Euros to the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation.  When asked at the press conference about a similar calendar with opera singers, Carreras replied... "Why not?  I'd be the first one to put my name down if we could to do  it with the same dignity as the ladies of Yorkshire"

January 10 Madeira, Portugal - concert with the Orquestra Clássica da Madeira to celebrate Madeira's designation as European Region of the Year (Região Europeia do Ano). The photo from the concert (right) appeared on the front page of the Jornal da Madeira, 11 January 2004.
January 19 Barcelona, Spain - ceremony to mark the accord between the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation and the pharmaceutical company Amgen. The donation from Amgen will enable the Foundation to create a state of the art web site for the Spanish Bone Marrow Registry (REDMO) and health professionals which will be incorporated into the newly re-vamped www.fcarreras.org. January 28 Barcelona, Spain - celebrates the 30th anniversary of his debut at the Vienna Staatsoper with a news conference  Carreras made his debut in Vienna in Rigoletto on January 28, 1974, returning there many times in the ensuing 30 years.  In the photo (right),  José Carreras and Agnes Baltsa in the 1990 Carmen at the Staatsoper, where he first returned to his signature role as Don José following his recovery from leukaemia.
February 7 Montecarlo, Monaco - private concert with Debbie Harry at the Grimaldi Forum for the Lilly ICOS pharmaceutical company in conjunction with Music For 2.
February 14 Neuchâtel, Switzerland  - Die Fledermaus (Special Guest José Carreras) in the Theâtre du Passage. The performance was in aid of the International Red Cross and the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation.

February 23 Vienna, Austria - The Austrian Post Office isssues a special 1 Euro stamp to mark the 30th anniversary of Carreras' debut at the Vienna Staatsoper. The Austrian Post Office will donate 10 cents from each stamp sold to the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation. The photo (right) shows Carreras at the press conference to present the stamp.
February 27 Vienna, Austria - Gala to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Carreras' debut at the Vienna Staatsoper. The concert at the packed to overflowing Staatsoper included scenes from two of his signature roles Sly and Carmen and raised 200,000 Euros for the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation. In the photo (right) Carreras receives the applause of the audience and the cast, including his Carmen, Agnes Baltsa.

February 28 Vienna,  Austria -  the celebrations continued at the Herbert von Karajan Centrum, with an autograph session, special photo exhibition on Carreras' career in Austria and a screening of the 1986 von Karajan Don Carlo with Carreras in the title role.

March 2 Cologne, Germany -  official launch of the new Carreras CD
Energia
with a private concert. The CD also has a dedicated website.
March 3 Cologne, Germany - the Germany Tour begins with a recital in the Kölner Philharmonie accompanied by pianist Lorenzo Bavaj and the Nuovo Quartetto Italiano. The tour continued with performances in Baden-Baden (March 5), Kiel (March 7), Frankfurt (March 11), Berlin (March 14), Hamburg (March 17) and Leipzig (March 28)

March 17 Bremen, Germany - visit to young leukemia patients at the Professor Hess Kinderklinik where the Deutsche José Carreras Leukämie-Stiftung  has donated 492,000 Euros for a new day ward for children with cancer as well as securing the services of an art therapist for the next three years.

March 20 Oviedo, Spain - signs an accord with the regional government of Asturias to integrate their health service with REDMO, the Spanish National Bone Marrow Donor Registry, financed in large part by the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation. In the photo (right) Carreras with the regional councillor for health,  Rafael Sariego.

March 20 Oviedo, Spain -  recital in the Teatro Campoamor with pianist Lorenzo Bavaj. The filled to overflowing theatre had even added seating on the stage. Marta Barbon of La Voz de Asturias wrote that "the audience was greatly moved both by Carreras the great artist, and by Carreras the man."

March 22 Barcelona, Spain - signs agreement with Luís Hernández de Cabanyes, president of the Fundacion Privada Renta Corporacion to provide financial assistance and accomodation to families of leukemia patients undergoing treatment away from their home cities.
